The Big Three : Write, Talk, Invest

by Maynas Eric on May 8, 2009

Recent happenings in life made me think for quite a bit about what I’m doing right and wrong in my pursue into fulfilling my bucket list. Let’s start with what I’m wrong about, the juicy part, I’m doing too many things at the same time and working too long.

My average productive hours is about 3 hours, considering that the best in the world usually clock 4 or 5 hours of time which is efficiently used, my 3 hours is pretty good. BUT I work for about 16 hours a day every day, 3 out of 16 hours could definitely be improved. Thinking and planning makes up the rest of the 13 hours of the 16. That’s not going to work out in the long run.

So I thought, what are the 3 things that I would like to be known for, live by and do for the rest of my life that will be most meaningful to do and also help to provide a good life. It took about 3 minutes to get to the answer, it was to “Write, Talk and Invest.” I wanted to add in “Design” as one too but upon a minute of consideration, no. Nowadays, good design is not a “nice to have,” it is actually compulsory. How about thinking? I imagine that we can’t write well if we don’t think well, pretty straight-forward, not much explanation needed. No point adding in compulsory items so I’ll stick to the big 3 for as long as I believe in them.

Writing will bring in the income, speaking will leverage on the writing and bring in even more income, investing will make the income become passive income. We need money to do things on a large scale, even meaningful things, that’s quite a matter of fact thing so making money is a priority. So, target skillsets to improve by doing checked, writer, speaker and investor, let’s go rock the World!

Some of my posts now will not have pictures to accompany it if they don’t really need them.

I think our Big Three, as you described it, can be found through our mission statement. Three is a good number, it’s about balance and value. Most great people are known for mostly three things, or even one.

16 hrs a day is a long time to work man! I often pull getting up at 5 in the morning and eventually getting to bed around 12 or 1. I can’t do it more than 4 days in a week before I just burn out. Though good time management principles have allowed me to save more time and get more done in less time.
