Went out on a family outing just now and we were trying out these $9000 plus (almost $10,000) massage armchairs (one each). These chairs are kinda cool, not only do they look nice but are actually very comfortable to sit in. The massage functions were not bad too.
The last massage armchair we got was only about 1/3 the price of this one, is it worth 3 times more for this one? I don’t really think so. Here’s why:
They are luxury items and I’m more on the frugal side.
I don’t really like to sit on chairs which I can’t really do work in.
Here’s an idea :)
Why not make a chair that I can sit on and do real work in, massage my head, arms, legs and back so that I don’t feel tired while I work. How much is that worth to me? Quite a lot because then, it’s not really a luxry item, it becomes a productivity tool. *Winks*

I cannot see myself wanting this chair even if I had that much expendable income. It isn’t anything I could enjoy with my friends unless I bought a few of them. Hmm…don’t see that happening. Even if it could be modified for work, getting a massage at work would make me relax too much and not want to work!
I think I would rather spend that kind of money on a jacuzzi big enough to enjoy with my friends. Its really all a matter of priorities, whats important.
I was talking to my sister today about things like this (before I saw your blog) I asked her if she remembered how when we were little and the ice cream truck came around, we always wanted the biggest cone. What happened when we got it? It melted all over us and we never could finish it. What would be the sense in owning the Hope diamond or the crown jewels..there is no point. They are pretty to look at but really do nothing to enhance your life experience.
Many times we see things that we think we absolutely must have, and then, when we finally get them? They lose their appeal and importance. It would seem we almost always want what we do not have.
Its different when we find things that truly do matter, that make a difference in our lives. Love, spiritual connection, greater understanding, these are things we do not grow bored with and that never lose their value.
Again, its all a matter of perspective and priority. What is important to you? If the chair could cure my spine problems it would be priceless to me..because it cannot, it is therefore worthless. Perspective….
By the way, that’s a GREAT picture of you Eric, and you do look very comfortable in that chair.
I used to think in terms of number of plates of chicken rice (now I think in terms of salad and balsamic dressing!) so how many plates of rice will SG$9k buy me?
It’s more likely for me to get one massager just for the upper shoulders and upper back – way cheaper. CHIP CHIP! ~grin~
