By changing ourselves we DO change the world. We change our outlook which then allows us to perceive the world as changed from who we were before, to who we became. And, as you point out, after the change takes place, others view the change in us and take inspiration from us, hence changing their perception of what is possible perhaps influencing many generations to come.
